Through his operas, symphonies, his compositions for his own ensemble and his many collaborations with artists such as Allen Ginsberg, David Bowie, Ravi Shankar or Leonard Cohen, the impact of Philip Glass’ work on the music ans arts of our times is unprecedented.
En 2017, concert halls around the world celebrate his 80th birthday and the extraordinary youth of his music. From Paris to New York, Katia and Marielle Labèque travel the world with the Double Concerto With Two Pianos and Orchestra he composed for them. For this concert, they will play the magnificent Four Movements For Two Pianos, a highlight of their concert repertoire. They share the bill with French string quartet Quatuor Debussy, passionate about American contemporary music and Philip Glass’ string quartets.
The programme will feature a unique promenade in Glass’ compositions (The Hours, Naqoyqatsi, Satyagraha, Mishima, Four Movements For Two Pianos…), featuring new orchestrations by Michael Riesman and Nico Muhly, especially for this concert.
